The Department of Theatre and Dance will present two performamces in its Theatre in the Raw series on Friday, Feb. 24 at noon in L. Howard Fox Studio Theatre.
In the first performance, Bernie Malaky presents "I Never Saw Another Butterfly," written by Celeste Raspanti, directed by Bernie Malaky.
"I Never Saw Another Butterfly" is the inspirational story of the children of Terezin, a ghetto used as a stopping ground on the Auschwitz. This one-act version of a full length play gives a powerful and moving piece based on the drawing and poetry of the children during this horrid time.
In the second performance, Tiffani Coulson presents "The Things They Carried," written and directed by Tiffani Coulson.
"The Things They Carried" is the story of a girl who decides for the first time to get help for her depression, which is a result of her abusive boyfriend. This first draft script is a work in progress project that one day will hopefully be a full length play.
Theatre in the Raw is an experimental program designed to give the students an opportunity to produce and collaborate on creating theatre in a practical setting. Whereas the students work on their project with extreme diligence, it should be noted that these are works in progress.
