Tobie Selected NJAC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week for Seventh Time

Montclair, NJ (2/6/12) - Freshman forward Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ / Roselle Catholic) continues to collect the weekly honors as she was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the third straight week and seventh time this season.

Tobie had another solid week as the Red Hawks split a pair of NJAC North games putting MSU in third place in the division. The top three teams advance to the NJAC Tournament which begins on Saturday, February 18. Tobie averaged a double-double of 18.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in addition to seven blocked shots and three steals in the two contests.

She had 18 points, nine rebounds and five blocks as MSU battled No. 8/9 William Paterson close for the second time this season before falling 58-53 on the road. Tobie then powered her way to her third double-double of the season with 18 points, 12 rebounds and two blocks as MSU picked up an important victory beating Rutgers-Newark, 58-51.

Tobie is currently ranked in the Top 20 in the NJAC in five different categories, including scoring (18.0 ppg), rebounding (8.0 rpg), field goal percentage (.500), assists (2.3 apg) and free-throw shooting (.800).
