Track and Field's Adenugba, Basketball's Tobie Named MSU Athletes of the Week for February 13

Montclair, NJ (2/13/12) - Indoor Track and Field standout Niyi Adenugba (North Brunswick, NJ / North Brunswick), a junior, and freshman basketball forward Melissa Tobie (Elizabeth, NJ / Roselle Catholic) have been named MSU Athletes of the Week for February 13. 

Adenugba is selected for the second consecutive week after totaling 18 of Montclair State's 59 points (13 in the field events) helping the Red Hawks place sixth overall at the CTC Championships held at Wesleyan University. Adenugba finished second in the long jump among a field of 21 competitors posting a best distance of 6.52 meters (21-feet, 4.75-inches). He then placed fourth in the high jump leaping 1.88 meters (6-feet, 2-inches) before heading to the track where he collected his third Top 5 finish in the meet. The junior was fourth in the 60 hurdles recording a time of 8.77 seconds.

In her only game of the week, Tobie helped the Red Hawks solidify their New Jersey Athletic Conference playoff position as Montclair State closed out their home schedule with a 70-42 victory over New Jersey City. Tobie, who is named MSU Athlete of the Week for the fourth time this season, scored 15 points, grabbed three rebounds and added two assists, three blocked shots and six steals in 22 minutes of action. Tobie currently ranks third in the NJAC in scoring (17.9 ppg), seventh in rebounding (7.8 rpg), sixth in field goal percentage (.497) and fourth in free-throw percentage (.800).
