Student Parking Registration Information

A message from Perry Eggleston, Director of Parking Services:

Dear Students:

I am pleased to provide you with information relative to the Parking registration process for the 2012-2013 academic year. The intent of this letter is to inform you of upcoming changes for 2012-2013 and does not replace the Parking Regulations. I ask that you carefully read this entire e-mail, as it contains a great deal of important parking changes along with registration schedules.

Some Exciting Highlights!

  • Commuter and Resident surface lot permits have been REDUCED by $25.00!
  • Sophomore Residents are now eligible for on-campus parking!
  • Red Hawk Dollars will now be accepted for in-office transactions!
  • Weekend Daily Passes will be available using new pay-by-phone technology!
  • A Car Share program will be available to all students this Fall!
  • Resident Permits will be honored in all commuter lots and CarParc Diem on weekends!

Parking Permit Options and Changes to Lots

  • With the exception of the Red Hawk Deck permits, all surface lot parking permits have been REDUCED by $25.00 for the upcoming academic year.
  •  Commuter Student Parking
    • Commuter Student Permit Options:
      • General (yellow) surface lot permits - will enable you to park in all general (yellow) surface lots and the CarParc Diem deck.
      • Red Hawk Deck parking permits - Juniors, Seniors and Graduate commuter students only will have an opportunity to purchase a Red Hawk Deck permit.  Junior status is defined as 60 earned credits at the time of parking registration. Please note that the supply of Red Hawk Deck permits is limited, and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • Commuter Student Lot Changes:
      • General Lot 60 – Discontinuing Z3 permits. Lot 60 contains an additional 475 parking spaces and is now designated as a general Commuter Lot accessible with a general Commuter Surface Lot Permit. Frequent shuttle service is available from this lot.
  • Resident Student Parking
    • Resident Student Permit Options
      • Resident (green) surface lot permits – available to Sophomore*, Junior, Senior, and Graduate Resident students and will enable you to park in all resident (green) surface lots and will now include access to general (yellow) surface lots, as well as the CarParc Diem deck on weekends only.
      • Red Hawk Deck Permits - Current Red Hawk Deck permit holders will be eligible to renew beginning July 9, 2012. Those students who are not current Red Hawk Deck permit holders may register for a new Red Hawk Deck permit beginning August 1, 2012 and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
      • Freeman/Russ Residents - Parking-eligible students from Freeman Hall or Russ Hall can purchase a Red Hawk Deck permit. These permits are limited in number and will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

*To qualify as a sophomore, one must have a minimum of 30 earned credits at the time of parking registration.

    • Resident Student Lot Changes:
      • Discontinuing the Z1 and Z2 Resident Permits for a single Resident Permit.  A Resident Permit allows you to park in Lot 22, 27, 29, 41, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, and 61 on a first come first serve basis, regardless of where you live on campus.
      • Lot 61 - Formally a Commuter Lot, Lot 61 will be open to students with a Resident Permit. Please read all signs to ensure you are parking in the correct area.
      • IMPORTANT NOTE FOR RESIDENT STUDENT PERMIT HOLDERS: From Friday at 5:00 pm until Sunday at 11:30 pm, resident students who possess a Resident Surface Lot permit will be allowed to park in any Commuter Lot including CarParc Diem.
  • Short-term Parking
    • Weekend Daily Pass – Weekend daily passes will be available through a new pay-by-phone feature. Passes will be valid for 24-hours and will be available from Friday at 5:00pm until Monday at 6:00am.
    • Meters – All meters will be enforced 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and have a maximum time limit of three hours. Note: This is a change from prior years – meters in lot 17 and 20A will no longer be free on weekends.

Changes to Parking Policies and Procedures

  • It is the responsibility of all students who procure a parking permit to read and abide by the Parking Policies and Procedures document located at www.montclair.edu/parking.
  • I wish to highlight a few of the more significant changes that have been incorporated this year:
    • Metered Parking Enforcement – As referred above, all metered spaces will be enforced at all times.  Meters in Lot 17 and 20A will no longer be free on weekends or overnight as they are for short-term use only.
    • Metered Parking Maximum Time Limit – The intent of metered parking is to provide short-term parking for those conducting short-term business in an area other than where there permit allows.  Beginning with the 2012-2013 Regulations, the maximum time limit of three-hours will be in effect.
    • Daily Weekend Parking Permit – Beginning in Fall 2012, visitors may purchase a daily weekend permit that allows parking in any Resident or Commuter Lot including CarParc Diem for 24 hours.  Permits will be purchased using “pay-by-phone”. Check our website for more information on this feature in the coming weeks.
