KPMG Professionals Inspire Accounting Students with Real-World Insights

Posted in: Accounting & Finance

On February 5th, students in Professor DeSarno’s, Assistant Professor in the Accounting and Finance department, Fundamentals of Financial Accounting classes had the valuable opportunity to hear from industry professionals Jake Steinhof, Tax Partner, and Amy Korner, Senior Associate University Talent Acquisition, of KPMG’s Short Hills office. KPMG, one of the “Big Four” accounting firms, provides audit, tax, and advisory services to clients worldwide. With a strong focus on professional growth and innovation, KPMG plays a key role in shaping the future of the accounting profession.

Professor DeSarno emphasized the importance of these real-world interactions in the classroom, “I believe it is extremely important to provide students with the perspective of what they can expect in the workplace and the tremendous opportunities that are available in the accounting profession. My philosophy in the classroom is to not only teach the learning objectives but to also inspire! In order to accomplish this, making the material come alive is critical. Visits like this, as well as leveraging my years of experience as a CPA & Controller (serving in public, private, and not-for-profit accounting), provide me with the perspective to draw upon in order to achieve this goal.”
