Feliciano School of Business students are gaining real-world experience through the Red Hawk Fund, a student-managed investment fund launched in fall 2018. After completing a prerequisite course, students applied for the program, which runs as FINC350, or Advanced Investments Theory and Practice. Led by professor Michael Radin, students learn how to manage a large pension plan or endowment, draft investment policy statements, investment guidelines and identify a relevant portfolio against which the student fund could be managed.
The Montclair State University foundation, a non-profit charged with soliciting and managing funds and property for the university, will initially provide $250,000 divided across four tranches between the Fall 2018 and Spring 2020 semesters. The program began as a coordinated project linking a team of Feliciano School of Business Advisory Board members, faculty, and industry experts.
In the most recent course, students researched successful strategies for investment in an Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) and presented their analysis an advisory council comprising Feliciano School of Business faculty and industry leaders. The board was very impressed with the presentation and the level of investment student acumen and the issues the students presented.
With the establishment of this Fund, the Feliciano School of Business at Montclair State University has joined a select number of universities which offer this learning opportunity to its students. To learn more about this Fund, please contact the Department of Accounting and Finance at 973-655-4174
