Accounting Concentration & Certificate

Accounting Concentration
The concentration provides MBA students with an understanding of financial statements from a user’s perspective and does not provide adequate credits or learning to prepare for the CPA exam.

Accounting Concentration courses (9 credits)

Students with a non-Accounting undergraduate degree should complete:
ACCT 520 – Contemp Issues/Fin Acct I (Prerequisite: ACCT 560 Accounting for Business Managers)
ACCT 521 – Contemp Issues/Fin Acct II (Prerequisite: ACCT 520)
ACCT 523 – Financial Statement Analysis

Students with an Accounting undergraduate degree can select any other 9 credits from the list of Accounting electives with permission of the Accounting Department Chairperson.

Accounting Certificate
The graduate certificate program is a non-CPA track set of accounting courses designed principally for individuals currently in the workforce who want to enhance their accounting knowledge and education. This certificate consists of the courses included in the Accounting Concentration plus two additional courses.

MBA students interested in this offering should declare the Accounting concentration AND apply for the Accounting Certificate. By completing the courses below, you will satisfy the requirements for both the concentration AND the certificate.

Accounting Certificate courses (15 credits):
ACCT 520 – Contemp Issues/Fin Acct I (Prerequisite: ACCT 560 Accounting for Business Managers)
ACCT 521 – Contemp Issues/Fin Acct II (Prerequisite: ACCT 520)
ACCT 523 – Financial Statement Analysis
Plus
ACCT 512 – Fundamentals of Federal Taxation
ACCT 524 – Auditing Concepts and Techniques

Professional Accounting Certificate
The Professional Accounting Certificate Program is designed to satisfy the NJ State Board requirement of 24 credits in accounting education which is one of several education requirements to qualify to sit for the CPA exam. This certificate consists of the courses included in the Accounting Certificate plus two additional courses.

MBA students interested in this offering should declare the Accounting Concentration AND apply for the Professional Accounting Certificate. By completing the courses below, you will satisfy the requirements for both the concentration AND this certificate.

Professional Accounting Certificate courses (24 credits, including ACCT 560 Accounting for Business Managers):
ACCT 512 – Fundamentals of Federal Taxation
ACCT 520 – Contemp Issues/Fin Acct I (Prerequisite: ACCT 560 Accounting for Business Managers)
ACCT 521 – Contemp Issues/Fin Acct II (Prerequisite: ACCT 520)
ACCT 523 – Financial Statement Analysis
ACCT 524 – Auditing Concepts and Techniques
Plus
ACCT 510 – Accounting Information Systems
ACCT 539 – Advanced Audit Analytics

Forensic Accounting Certificate
This certificate program ONLY accepts applications from individuals with undergraduate degrees in accounting. Applications from individuals with undergraduate degrees in finance with relative work experience will also be carefully considered.

MBA students interested in this offering should declare the Accounting concentration AND apply for the Forensic Accounting Certificate. The courses below will satisfy the requirements for both the concentration AND the certificate.

Forensic Accounting Certificate courses (graduate – 12 credits):
ACCT 526 – Forensic Accounting
ACCT 527 – Fraud Accounting
ACCT 528 – Business Valuation
BSLW 506 – Business Law in Forensics
