Poet Jenny Xie, author of the award-winning volume Eye Level, read her poetry to students in Professor Lucy McDiarmid’s Art of Poetry class on October 28.  Several faculty members also attended and participated in the Q & A, which lasted for an hour.  The students, who had studied Xie’s poetry for two weeks, asked the poet about the meaning of particular lines and about the “poetry business.”  Montclair creative writers Marta Lopez (Department of Spanish and Latino Studies) and Michael Robbins (Department of English) agreed with Xie (Visiting Assistant Professor of Written Arts, Bard College) that the different “tracks” in today’s poetry scene, from the more established to the more unconventional, created a rich and stimulating variety of poetries.
