Honors Options

1. Prerequisite: English major, senior standing, minimum 3.7 GPA in English.

2. Students may undertake the honors research option by selecting either of these methods:

A. Contract with a faculty member in any undergraduate English course of 300- or 400- level in which an academic research project is appropriate. Under that faculty member’s supervision, complete an honors senior thesis project while enrolled in that course. The project should show an engagement with current scholarship on its topic, and it should yield a paper of 20 pages or more. Students must earn at least an A- in the course.

B. Contract with a faculty member to do a three credit undergraduate independent study that will culminate in an honors senior thesis project as described above. Students must earn at least an A- in the course.

3. Upon completion of #2 above and having maintained a minimum 3.7 GPA in English, students will be entitled to graduate with “English Honors” on their Montclair State University transcripts.

Interested students should contact Prof. Lee Behlman in the spring of their Junior year or early fall of their senior year.
