Important: Direct Deposit and Pay Cards (Cash Pay)

As mandated of New Jersey State employees, the University will no longer issue payroll checks effective July 1, 2014.  Payroll will be distributed by direct deposit or via a Visa Pre-Paid Card through Bank of America. Card holder fees may be applicable.  Card holder fees are posted on the payroll section of our Human Resources website.

Below is a summary of both Direct Deposit and Pay Cards (Cash Pay).

Direct Deposit

Direct Deposit is a program that ensures your money is safely deposited into the bank account of your choice.  Actually, you can specify up to four accounts (two savings and two checking) at any US financial institution(s).  Just think: no more waiting in lines, and no worrying about how to get your check during the winter holidays or if the University is closed.

If you have a bank account, Direct Deposit is the best option for you.  If you have not already enrolled for Direct Deposit, you need to do so as soon as possible so that the information can be tested (pre-noted) on the next pay issued in order to activate the direct deposit the following pay period.

If you fail to have the information tested in our system over two pays, you will be automatically enrolled in the Visa Prepaid Card Program

Visa Prepaid Card (Cash Pay)

Pre-Paid card programs are used by companies throughout the country, including the Federal Government, as an alternative to direct deposit.  It is a virtual bank account, accessed through a Visa Pre-paid Card.  There is no credit check and no minimum balance required.   Our card program is called Cash Pay and is offered through Bank of America.  You will be able to access your cash at no charge from any Bank of America ATM or from a bank teller at any bank that accepts VISA.  You will also be able to use the card like any debit card to make purchases from any retailer that accepts VISA, including grocery stores and online retailers like Amazon.

If you don’t have a bank account and don’t sign up for Direct Deposit, Cash Pay will be instituted for your pay.  When the pay card is initiated at the bank it will be sent to the address on file in our HR/Payroll system.  If the address on file is correct, you are all set.  If the address is not correct, you should update your address with our Human Resources Division office.

Your Cash Pay card, as well as the detailed instructions, will be mailed to you from Bank of America.  Once you receive the card, you will need to follow the instructions that are mailed with the card to activate it.  Once activated, you will be able to access your virtual account online or by calling the Bank of America Cash Pay Customer Service area.

We are very pleased to offer Cash Pay to our employees as an alternative to those who do not have a bank account.  As mentioned earlier, the program will save you time and money while eliminating any worry about where your money is.
