Game-Ending Run Pushes Women's Basketball Past Stockton, 64-60

Pomona, NJ (1/9/10) – Richard Stockton (6-5, 2-1 NJAC) rallied to take a seven-point lead late in the second half but could not hold on as Montclair State (9-5, 3-1 NJAC) scored the final 11 points of the game and defeated the Ospreys 64-60 on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Hawks’ Kisandra Ayanbeku (Brockton, MA/Randolph) led all players with 15 points and 15 rebounds.  Teammates Jaime Ericson (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and Jackie Berry (Tuckerton, NJ/Pinelands) had 12 and 11 points respectively.  Ericson also hit four three-pointers, all in the first half, while Berry dished a game-high seven assists.

Stockton was led in scoring by Julia Fagan (New Britain, CT/New Britain) and freshman Jill Shaner (Egg Harbor Township/ Egg Harbor Township) with 11 points each.  It was a career high in points for Shaner in her freshman season.

Stockton led by seven with 8:39 left in the first half, but Montclair went on a 25-8 run that included the final six points of the first half for a 39-29 lead at the break.  Ericson sparked the Red Hawks with 12 points on four three-pointers and Ayanbeku tallied six points and 10 boards.

Stockton battled back throughout the second half and used a 12-4 spurt to turn a one-point deficit into a 60-53 lead after a free throw by Fagan with 5:45 remaining.  Montclair shut the Ospreys down and scored the last 11 points, including five by Ayanbeku as the Red Hawks prevailed 64-60 for their fifth win in the last six games.

The Red Hawks remain on the road for their next contest on Wednesday, January 13 as they travel to Jersey City, NJ to face the Gothic Knnights of New Jersey City University at 6:00 pm.
