Powell, Presti Set Personal Best Times at Princeton New Year's Invitational


Princeton, NJ (12/11/10) – Sophomore Ashley Powell (Orange, NJ / Marylawn of the Oranges) and Nicole Presti (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) each recorded personal best times as the Montclair State women’s indoor track and field team took part in the Princeton New Year’s Invitational at Jadwin Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Powell finished 20th in the 60 meters in the talented field comprised of Division I, II and III competitors. She ran 8.22 in the event which converted into a 55 meter time (the actual NCAA championship event) is a time of 7.65 seconds. Hannah Campbell (Forked River, NJ / Lacey Township) ran 8.49 in the race while Antoinetta Altilio (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) also improved her personal best for the 55 meters (7.98 conversion) with a time of 8.55 in the 60 meters.

Presti registered a time of 3:32.89 to finish seventh in the 1000 meters. Kaitlin Mackinowski (New Brunswick, NJ / Spotswood) was eighth as she timed in at 3:37.20.

Sophomore Heather Gearity (Rutherford, NJ / Rutherford) placed 10th in the 600 meters. Gearity ran 1:44.44 with Angelina Ollo (Parsippany, NJ / Parsippany) and freshman Krystal Ellis (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) placing 14th and 21st, respectively with times of 1:45.57 and 1:48.40. Ellis was also 19th in the 60 hurdles (9.68 seconds).

 Freshman Brittany Stradford (Trenton, NJ / Trenton Central) competed in her first 3000 meters an recorded a time of 11:49.46.  

In the field events, freshman Molly Fitzpatrick (Florence, NJ / Florence) competed in both the weight throw (7.23 meters) and shot put (9.35 meters). Freshman Michelle McNulty (Bayonne, NJ / Bayonne) leaped 4.95 meters in the long jump with Gearity posting a distance of 4.88 meters in the same event.

The Red Hawks are now off until January 14, 2011 when they compete in the Gotham Cup at The Armory in New York City.
