Keelen, McNamara Selected as NJAC Field Hockey Defensive, Offensive Players of the Week

Montclair, NJ (9/12/11) –Senior forward Devin McNamara (Mount Royal, NJ / Gloucester Catholic) and senior Chelsea Keelen (Tinton Falls, NJ / Middletown South) each received honors from the New Jersey Athletic Conference on Monday as they were named the league's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.

Both were instrumental in helping Montclair State to a pair of wins over Union and Muhlenberg as the Red Hawks improved to 4-0 marking the first time since 2008 and the seventh time in the last nine years the MSU has opened the year with four consecutive victories.

McNamara had a hand in all three goals scoring twice and assisting on the other as MSU blanked Union, 3-0. McNamara then followed that up with a goal as the Red Hawks defeated Muhlenberg, 4-1. The team co-leader in both goals and points, McNamara is currently fifth in the NJAC in points scored and fourth in goals.

Keelen was the leader of a Montclair State defensive unit that was dominant in the wins against Union and Muhlenberg as the Red Hawks allowed a combined seven shots and the one goal. MSU allowed just three shots versus Union, including just one over the final 55 minutes. Muhlenberg managed just four shots in the 4-1 Montclair victory, the lone goal coming 19:57 left snapping a string of 220:56 scoreless minutes by the Red Hawks.

Montclair State returns to action on Tuesday, September 13 as they open up New Jersey Athletic Conference play at Kean University with a 7:30 pm start in Union.
