Swimming and Diving Sweeps Adelphi Behind Vallone, Dreisback


Montclair, NJ (11/5/11) – Junior Ashley Vallone (Park Ridge, NJ / Park Ridge) won three individual events and helped a relay team to another victory while freshman Tommy Dreisback (Denville, NJ / Morris Knolls) won both sections of diving for the second straight day as Montclair State swept a dual meet from Adelphi University at the Panzer Pool on Saturday.

Each picked up their first dual meet wins of the season as the men posted a 153-127 victory over the Panthers while the women won 155-118. Both teams are now 1-2.

Vallone helped the women get off on the right foot as she swam the anchor leg of the 200 medley relay team that finished first with a time of 1:59.30. Kelsie Donahue (Egg Harbor, NJ / Egg Harbor Township), Maria Vira (Bayonne, NJ / Bayonne) and Kelly Abner (Glenwood, NJ / Vernon) comprised the remainder of that squad.

Vallone would go on to win three freestyle events. She captured the 200 free with a time of 2:05.05 and recorded a time of 25.50 to claim first in the 50 freestyle. She wrapped up her day with her third victory in the 100 freestyle posting a time of 56.17.

Donahue would add two victories in the 100 backstroke (1:05.88) and 200 individual medley (2:24.65) while Vira won the 200 breaststroke clocking in at 2:39.08. Freshman Victoria Bischoff (Cape May, NJ / Wildwood Catholic) won the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.80 with diver Lauren Corrente (Nyack, NY / Nyack) winning both the one-meter and three-meter diving events with scores of 95.65 and 115.75 points, respectively.

Dreisback won the one-meter diving event with a score of 84.50 points before coming back to capture the three-meter event with a score of 86.65 points. Joseph Berry (Edison, NJ / Edison) led a 1-2 Montclair State finish in the 1000 free with a time of 11:17.93 finishing just ahead of Michael Volski (Edison, NJ / Edison), who came in at 11:22.43.

Chris Lee (Morris Plains, NJ / Parsippany Hills)
took first in the 100 breaststroke with Thomas Long (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) winning the 50 freestyle (22.55). Junior Zak Westerberg (Hamilton, NJ / Hamilton North) won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:12.48.  

Montclair State is off until Friday, November 11 when they host Drew University at the Panzer Athletic Center Pool beginning at 6:00 pm.
