Collegeville, PA (1/20/12) – Freshman Shannon Kermah (Woodland Hills, CA / Burroughs)
won the triple jump and set a new school record in the process as the
Montclair State women’s indoor track and field team finished ninth at
the Collegeville Classic held at Ursinus College.
Kermah posted a leap of 10.82 meters (35-feet, 6-inches) to win the
event as she also eclipsed Katherine Tallaj’s 2009 mark of 10.62
meters. Kermah’s mark is currently No. 30 in the nation.
Freshman Tanasia Linton also had a solid day with a pair of Top 5
finishes. Linton was second in the 200 meters with a time of 27.14
seconds and placed fifth in the 60 meters at 8.15 seconds. Freshman Janee Carr (Piscataway, NJ / Piscataway) posted a personal best time of 9.57 seconds in the 60 hurdles placing seventh while classmate Imani Jones (Roselle, NJ / Abraham Clark) was seventh in the 60 meters at 8.20 seconds.
Freshman Tanaya Jones (Newark, NJ / Weequahic) threw a season best 10.72 meters (35-feet, 2-inches) to finish seventh in the shot put and freshman Sheneya Murphy (Somerdale, NJ / Collingswood) set a pair of personal marks in the 200 and 400 meters at 28.01 and 1:04.89, respectively.
Sophomore Michelle Armando Padvano (Rahway, NJ / Mother Seton) also
had two personal bests placing ninth in the one mile with a time of
5:46.94. She then came back to record a time of 2:41.76 in the 800
meters.
Junior Nicole Presti (Saddle Brook, NJ / Saddle Brook) rounded out the outstanding performances by MSU with a personal best time of 11:50.86 in the 3,000 meters.
The Red Hawks return to action on Friday, January 27 as they compete in the Terrier Classic at Boston University.
