Office of the PResident

Dear Community Members,

I am thrilled to announce that Junius Gonzales, MD, MBA, has been named Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective March 7, 2022.

As the second-highest ranking officer of the University, Gonzales will lead the University’s 10 colleges and schools, which offer more than 300 academic degree programs serving some 21,000 students, the second-largest enrollment at any higher education institution in New Jersey.

Over a distinguished 30-year career, Dr. Gonzales has worked as a faculty member, researcher, consultant and senior administrator. He currently serves as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the New York Institute of Technology. He has also been the chief academic officer at the University of Texas-El Paso and the University of North Carolina System, where he also served as interim president.

His broad-ranging experience, track record of innovation, and his commitment to working collaboratively to support students and faculty will positively impact the entire University community, and I am looking forward to working closely with him as we elevate Montclair to become a national model of an innovative 21st-century public university.

I would like to thank the search committee, chaired by Professor Emily Douglas and ably supported by Monica Tejeda and Mary Colon, for their outstanding work. A committee reflective of our diverse campus community evaluated a highly qualified, diverse pool of candidates and presented an outstanding set of finalists.

Finally, I must express my gratitude to Dean Kimberly Hollister for her service as Acting Provost since July. She has done a tremendous job filling this important role while continuing to provide outstanding leadership for the Feliciano School of Business.
