Addressing Potential Increase in Health Benefits Costs

Dear Montclair State University Employees:

I am sure that you have heard that the State is considering increasing employees’ share of their health benefits and share the University’s concern as to how it will impact our employees and their families. The Presidents of all of New Jersey’s senior public universities recently wrote to Governor Murphy expressing our deep concerns over recent reports of a potential and significant (up to 24%) increase in health benefits costs being considered by the State Health Benefits Commission.

Given the scope and unanticipated nature of this potential increase, the Presidents have respectfully requested a one-time use of state surplus funds to help lessen the substantial financial burden on our employees.

On Tuesday, September 13, at 12 noon, there will be a rally at the Statehouse Annex in Trenton. The AFT has been doing good work to lobby against an increase and has arranged for some transportation to Trenton.

I urge you to contact their office if you wish to attend should your schedule allow.
