Green Teams Testimonials

The PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies at Montclair State University is a prime example of the type of partnership for which we strive. The Institute brings experts from various disciplines to work with students on both research and applied projects. These teams work with various organizations, including non-profits, municipalities and private companies to investigate and address particular issues within sustainability. Sample research projects include a feasibility study of RNG in New Jersey for a local utility and working with a local city on analyzing and understanding its GHG emissions. We believe this program exemplifies the type of collaborative energy and ingenuity necessary to meet the challenges of climate change.

PSEG ISS [Green Teams] has been the keystone of my sustainability-focused professional life.

I cannot thank this program enough for the confidence it gave me networking! I have had much more success with applications, largely I believe because of networking skills. I reached back out to people I met over the summer who were very helpful. I feel very grateful for the time the PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies invested in helping us interns build these types of professional skills.

The Green Teams Internship is open to all majors and any school! I am a business major and I was selected. I worked with another business major from Montclair State, a graphic design major from Monmouth, an international policy major from Johns Hopkins, and an electrical engineering major from Rowan. The environment of the program is so accepting of all walks of life, and the leadership is truly the best resource that I am so thankful to have met. I still regularly talk to my team and the leadership team to this day. I will definitely be talking about this internship in every job interview I have out of college, as well as any future internship interviews. Definitely apply for this program! It is also PAID!

My participation in the Green Teams has been fundamental to my success. I highly endorse working with the PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies.

Thank you so much, I sincerely appreciate this opportunity. The experience I’m gaining is immeasurable, the knowledge bank is unfathomable and the interpersonal communication and group dynamics is incomparable to any that I have come across in my lifetime yet. Thank you again for having me.

The Green Teams summer internship is a fantastic way to get acquainted with the field of sustainability. Its interdisciplinary approach allows students from all majors to participate. As one of several biology majors in the program, it was eye-opening to be part of a team that included students majoring in finance, physics, and business analytics, and I quickly learned that each of us brought different — albeit equally valuable — skills to the table. The Institute for Sustainability Studies at Montclair State University is well-connected with large and small businesses in New Jersey, and the internship program is a great way to get your foot in the door and learn firsthand how corporations approach the growing field of sustainability. By participating in the program, I have learned to appreciate the importance of the economic and social facets of sustainability.

I loved being able to work with an interdisciplinary team with a diverse set of ideas. This set up a nice learning environment for each of us to develop skills that we previously did not have by working closely as a team. Early in the internship, we did a lot of fun team building activities that helped each team get to know each other and start moving through the group processes. At any point in the program, we had the option of asking for training in any field if it related to our work. This option opened doors for anyone to learn about a topic of interest that may have related to work, but may not be an option to learn in school. The program provided both personal and professional development workshops. Additionally, the program director handed out a physical copy of our resume to every company or partner that came to train us. Thus, this experience was very helpful in growing as a person and growing my connections which I hope will be beneficial as I move forward in my career.

The Montclair State University PSEG ISS Green Teams Program was a remarkable experience. There is nothing more valuable than hands-on learning experience and that is exactly what this internship provided. I loved how each member of the group was able to bring their individual expertise to the deliverables and it was that diversity of thought that made my Green Team so successful.

I have learned that sustainability extends beyond the typical recycling program and can truly apply to any field. My favorite part of this internship was discovering the strong connection between two things I am very passionate about: the arts and sustainability.

The Green Teams helped me realize my potential as a project leader and sustainability professional; I have been tackling related projects in my communities throughout, and even after, the program!

The Green Team internship was a tremendous opportunity to open my eyes to a corporate world I never thought I’d want to belong to, while also subjecting myself to a greener way of thinking. I loved every second of it.

Transitioning from an intern to an assistant project manager allowed me to fully grasp the inner workings of such an impactful program, as well as prepare me for a more corporate roll within the sustainability field.

This program has forever changed my life and the lives of everyone involved.

I never saw myself doing anything else other than work in hospital or labs, but this internship gave me insight how businesses work. I only invest in companies which have taken some sustainable initiatives and are continuously trying to improve. Before the internship sustainability was a just word for me but now it’s a value I try to live by.

The program gave me a sense of belonging. I made friends while doing what I absolutely love. I’ve gotten experience I could not have received elsewhere.

Learning about all the different ways that I can use my skills that I have learned through my major, in a different subject(sustainability).

The internship is a conversation starter during interviews! Interviewers often wonder what specifically the team worked on and [about] the skills I learned.

This internship provided a vast number of companies, organizations, and municipalities to support and connect with. I have gained new skills and fine-tuned previous ones for a corporate setting that ensure I will have a positive experience interacting with my coworkers and superiors. More personally, I learned about [how] much of an impact I can have on multiple communities.

I have learned that sustainability extends beyond the typical recycling program and can truly apply to any field. As the ‘Arts’ person on the team, I found my place aiding with website design and creating infographics about various topics related to the Hackensack University Medical Center’s sustainability initiatives. My favorite part of this internship was discovering the strong connection between two things I am very passionate about: the arts and sustainability.

Below are a few of the things that I enjoyed the most about the summer internship. I loved being able to work with an interdisciplinary team with a diverse set of ideas. Early in the internship, we did a lot of fun team building activities that helped each team get to know each other and start moving through the group processes. As one of several biology majors in the program, it was eye-opening to be part of a team that included students majoring in finance, physics, and business analytics, and I quickly learned that each of us brought different — albeit equally valuable — skills to the table. My team created a database to improve PSEG’s data governance in relation to sustainability, effectively improving their transparency in reporting their already decent sustainability performance.

By participating in the program, I have learned to appreciate the importance of the economic and social facets of sustainability. Hopefully, this will allow me to assess environmental issues from different perspectives and approach ecological sustainability in a more holistic manner.

I would describe this as a great opportunity to meet very interesting people from very different backgrounds, students, NGO’s, the government, diplomats, designers, industry professionals etc. It offers tremendous insight into how corporates perceive sustainability, how they work and what opportunities are out there in the sustainability space. There are a whole host of invaluable trainings given for free both pertaining to sustainability (LEED, GRI, LCA) and personal development (leadership skills, teamwork, communication, presentation, public speaking, resume development, college application). My experience has been very positive; I would suggest that anyone interested in sustainability should apply.

The Green-teams management creates a positive, nurturing environment which makes it a great workplace. There is plenty of opportunity to network and meet with very interesting individuals, professionals, the press and corporates. You make personal connections with fellow students from very diverse backgrounds and reap those benefits, with sustainability being so important for our future.

This is a wonderful opportunity to learn, to observe and to work at making a difference. I enjoyed the ability we were given to develop ourselves as professionals. I enjoyed that we were able to go into meetings, with our corporate partners and as an entire group, and we were looked upon as leaders within the field of sustainability.

I would highly recommend this program to students who question how what they’re learning in the classroom fits in to the bigger picture.

I am much more passionate about my future career and the changes I hope to make in this world.

The quality of the trainings we participated in couldn’t have been better.

This has been an eye opening opportunity about sustainability and our role in maintaining the life of our planet.

It was great getting to work with different individuals with different majors and expertise.

I love this program!

From both years of being an intern for PSEG ISS, I was able to see the magic that is transdisciplinary work and the incredible results that are possible.

Becoming so close with my Green Team. I created unforgettable friendships!
