Montclair State University Police Department is located in two counties (Essex and Passaic) which are separated into three townships (Montclair, Little Falls and Clifton). This information is necessary for those individuals that may need to resolve issues by using the judicial system. For a municipal summons issued by a police officer, the municipality is written on the top of the ticket. For criminal matters, the Montclair State University would be the arresting department; however, the case would be heard in the court of jurisdiction where the offense occurred. Once you find out the municipality, check the summons or warrant for the contact information. To pay a municipal motor vehicle summons please visit www.njmcdirect.com; if you intend to plead not guilty you must contact the court directly seven days in advance.

University Code of Conduct
In addition to criminal violations, students are expected to adhere to the University Code of Conduct. These policies are different and separate from criminal charges, which are filed by University Police. Whenever criminal charges are filed, a University Conduct officer will hold a hearing to discover if a student has disobeyed conduct policies created by the administration. Even when criminal charges aren’t filed, a conduct hearing is held for the same reasons stated above. Please note that the university administration holds these hearings, assisted by the Dean of Students Office. For more information, please visit the Dean of Students website.
