Throughout the academic year, we have a number of volunteer opportunities in which students can participate. Listed below, we have included the main service opportunities in which you can participate, along with information about other opportunities to serve.
9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance
Start the academic year off by doing some good at one of the many service projects available on & off campus. The Center for Community Engagement and Volunteer Center host an annual service event to honor and remember the victims and first responders of the September 11 tragedy.
This annual service event invites Montclair State University students, faculty, alumni and local community members to serve the Montclair community and surrounding areas as we continue to honor of civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.’s lifelong dedication to justice, equality, and service for the greater good.
Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week (H&H Week for short) is a national week where people bring awareness to the problems of hunger and homelessness. Throughout this week, those that are participating hold a series of educational, service, fundraising, and advocacy events.
Alternative Spring Break
Montclair State University students have the chance to spend their free time over the Spring Break to make a difference in someone else’s life. For those that wish to participate in the upcoming Alternative Spring Break trip, our recruitment process begins in the fall semester.
Community Service Fair
Montclair State University’s Community Service Fair aims to connect Montclair State University students, staff and faculty with local community organizations. This is the perfect opportunity for organizations to recruit new volunteers, as well as organizations to network with other organizations.
Soar into Service
As part of the Pre-Fall Orientation and Welcome Week experience, we hosted a day of service for first-year students on Saturday August 26, 2023. This allowed first-year students to get out into the community, engaging with our neighbors and doing community service.
Every other month, Montclair State University aims to connect donors to help save the lives of local patients. Since 2012, American Red Cross and MSU has helped over 4000 local patients.
Along with these great volunteer opportunities, there are several chances to volunteer throughout the school year. However with the changes due to COVID-19, volunteering can be a challenge. With this in mind, there are options to volunteer with social distancing and safety regulations, along with virtual options. Current partnerships with community service members can be found on Engage or below. Keep in mind some of the information might change when safety regulations change, so it is important to contact the organization or Volunteer Coordinator for more information before signing up to volunteer.
