On Nov. 5, 2019 Dr. Hitchcock, in a discussion with Dr. Kathryn Cabbage, presented different forms of visual biofeedback for treatment of speech sound disorders. This online discussion was designed to provide clinicians with practical information on current biofeedback technologies and techniques, as well as why and how to use biofeedback to remediate childhood speech sound disorders. The presentation included a review of high-tech acoustic, ultrasound, and electropalatography approaches to biofeedback as well as less expensive alternatives for treatment. This invited presentation was a collaborative initiative between ASHA Special Interest Groups 1 (Language, Learning and Education), 16 (School-Based Issues), and 19 (Speech Science).
Elaine Hitchcock is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Montclair State University.
