The Judicial Branch deals with all matters of fairness, constitutionality and criminality regarding the Student Government Association. This branch consists of the Chief Justice, Associate Justices and the Student Advocate. Sometimes referred to as the “Justice League”, the Judicial Branch reviews all bills passed in the Legislature of the SGA. It also conducts judicial reviews regarding scenarios in which legitimacy is questioned and holds hearings on matters of criminality if they should arise. Overall, it is the aim of the Justice Branch to maintain a system of checks and balances within the SGA and to promote students’ rights and fairness at Montclair State University.
The Chief Justice is an integral part of a properly functioning Student Government Association. The Chief Justice is charged with upholding the integrity of the SGA by overseeing and leading the administrative functions and oral arguments of the Justice Branch. The Justice Branch hears cases concerning alleged violations of the constitution, statutes and the student bill of rights, making judgments that represent the best interest of the student body.
