Players

Founded in 1937, Players, a programming board of the SGA is Montclair State University’s premier student run theater board. Unlike a registered student organization, Players lives underneath the executive branch of the SGA which is where it also receives its funding. Each year, Players produces and performs a multitude of main stage plays and musicals, as well as an assortment of dance shows, improv. shows, cabarets, and more. Every year in the Fall semester, Players produces their most popular event of the year; a shadow cast production of the cult classic: The Rocky Horror Picture Show. This production features exciting choreography, fun audience participation, and follows the tradition of featuring midnight performances!

Here, Montclair undergraduate students of any major have the opportunity to write, direct, act, sing, dance, stage manage, choreograph, design lighting or sound, costume shows, play instruments, do hair and makeup, do improv, build theater experience, and more. There are no limits to what our student members can do in Players, a programming board of the SGA. If you’re less interested in producing or performing a show, and more interested in coming to see what we create: that’s alright, too! Our audience members are just as important as our performers.

DID YOU KNOW? In 1977, Bruce Willis (yes, the Bruce Willis) performed an a Players production? That’s right! To honor him, each year we conduct our annual Brucey Awards recognizing the most remarkable performances and productions of the season.
