Meal Plans
Choosing Your Plan
Consider your daily routine...class schedule, study time, extracurricular and social activities and employment. Select the meal plan or block plan that is best for you. One block is equal to one meal at one of the two dining halls on campus. Blocks can also be used to equal $5.25 each towards the purchase of food only during meal equivalency hours at specified locations ($3.75 for Student Center breakfast equivalency). The block plans have added flexibility in that you can use your blocks until the end of the semester rather than weekly, which is how the 14 and 2 meal plans are programmed. Additionally, the block plans can be used for meal equivalency at The Red Hawk Diner (see specific hours below); whereas the 14 and 2 meal plan do not have this flexibility.
Block Plans
1 block = 1 swipe = 1 meal at Blanton or Freeman Dining Halls. Upon entering a dining hall, your MSU ID Card is swiped at the register and one block is removed. Any unspent blocks will be forfeited at the end of each semester.
Constant Pass
Constant Pass Plan customers have unlimited access to Blanton and Freeman Dining Hall for all meals. Meal Equivalency is not available with the Constant Pass Plan.
Flex Dollars
Flex dollars are used just like cash to purchase food. One Flex Dollar is equal to one cash dollar. Meal plans and Flex Dollars are coded to your MSU ID card and are accepted at all Dining Service Facilities except The Red Hawk Truck. If you run out of Flex Dollars before the end of the semester, you can purchase additional flex dollars ($50, $100, $250) or Red Hawk Dollars. Flex Dollars are tax free. Any unspent Flex Dollars carry over from the fall semester to the spring semester as long as you have a meal plan in the spring semester. Balances at the end of spring semester will be forfeited. Unspent blocks are forfeited at the end of each semester. If you cancel your meal plan, any unspent Flex Dollars will be lost.
Red Hawk Dollars
Red Hawk Dollars may be added at any time for any amount. Red Hawk Dollar is an all-in-one debit card used for purchases at The University Bookstore, The Library and all Campus Dining Facilities. This account is available for purchase at the Meal Plan Office in Student Center. For further information, call (973) 655-7889.
Cash Equivalency
With several meal plan, your dining options are expanded to take advantage of the Student Center Cafeteria or the Rathskeller locations. During specific times (see below) one block can be equal to $5.25 towards the purchase of food in the Student Center Cafeteria and Rathskeller ($3.75 for Student Center breakfast). If you purchase more than $5.25 worth, you can use another block, pay the difference in cash and/or flex dollars, or use your Red Hawk Dollars account!
