Efforts at Montclair State University
- Fundraising Kickoff: Wednesday, January 20 - 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Student Center Lobby
Snacks will be available for sale, with suggested donations of at least $1.00, with people encouraged to donate as much as they are able. Proceeds from this event will be given to the Red Cross, where of donations recieved will go to the relief effort. Information will also be available on how people can continue to make donations to related relief organizations, including text messaging programs and on-line donations.
- "Hope for Haiti" Telethon Viewing: Friday, January 22 - 8:00pm-10:00pm - Student Center 126
Join us for food and a viewing of the "Hope for Haiti" Telethon. Donations will be accepted for Doctors Without Borders.
- Candlelight Ceremony: Wednesday, January 27 - 5:00pm-5:30pm - Student Center Quad
- A.S.S.I.S.T. Coffeehouse: Thursday, January 28 - 9:00pm-12:30am -Student Center Rathskeller
All Coffeehouse donations will be given to Haiti Relief.
- All events sponsored by the Organization of Students for African Unity (OSAU) during the month of February will collect donations towards Haiti relief.
- CaribSO Weekend Party: Friday, February 5 - 9:00pm -Student Center Ballrooms
All proceeds from this event will go to Doctors Without Borders. $5 for MSU Students, $7 non-MSU. Must have College ID. Non-MSU students must be signed in by an MSU Student. Co-Sponsored by RLC.
- Night of Love: Saturday, February 13 -7:00pm - Student Center Ballrooms
HSA's (Haitian Student Association) first event this semester is "Night of Love" which will feature performers, dancers, and more. Come enjoy a night dedicated to love and getting back to what love used to be. All proceeds from the event and the products we are selling will go to Haiti Earthquake relief. See you there in your formal wear.
- Haircuts for Haiti: Monday, February 15 -11:00am-5:00pm - Rocky's Mart (SC 1st floor)
To support the Haiti relief effort, several of Montclair State University’s student organizations have united with local businesses to create Haircuts for Haiti. Barbers from Balonze barbershop will set up shop in MSU’s student center and will cut hair from 11am to 5pm on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. They will be accepting donations in exchange for haircuts.
- Hoops for Haiti: Wednesday, April 7 - 5:00pm Warm Ups, Tip Off at 5:30pm - Panzer Athletic Center
Montclair State Athletics presents Hoops For Haiti: Full court 3 vs. 3 Basketball Tournament. Early Registration in the SC Cafe on Monday, April 5, 12-1pm and Tuesday, April 6, 1-3pm. Only MSU students can participate, registration is $9 per team. (Teams can be co-ed). Family and Friends welcome! $2 admission, $1 with MSU student ID. For more info stop by Panzer Athletic Center room 118 or email Orville Campbell. Proceeds will go the the Red Cross.
Montclair State University helps Haiti
The campus community has already made an impact on the relief effort in Haiti. To date we have collected (not including personal donations):
In addition to donations collected, members of the Montclair State University community have traveled to Haiti to assist in relief efforts.
- Donna Barry, Director of the University Health Center, spent 17 days in Haiti providing medical care with the New Jersey 1 Disaster Medical Team. Read more about Donna's work here.
- Student James Gatti (Justice Studies, class of 2012), was a member of
a team that went to Haiti providing medical relief efforts with Our
Chance International: EMS Outreach, a non-government organization
based out of Saddle River, New Jersey.
