The Center for Writing Excellence will provide a series of workshops throughout the spring 2016 semester.  For your time-convenience, the same workshop will be offered twice each week, with topics changing weekly.

Free!  All Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni Welcome!

CWE workshops are free and all Montclair State University students are welcome to attend.

Workshops take place in Bohn Hall, Room 494 (CWE Seminar room).

Workshops

Making Arguments about Literature

Wednesday, February 10, 2:30 p.m.
Thursday, February 11,  2:00 p.m.

This workshop will help you develop strong arguments based on literary analysis and highlight the differences between arguing about literature and social issues—especially useful for writers transitioning from ENWR105 to ENWR106 and those writing about literature beyond ENWR106.

MLA Format

Wednesday, February 24, 2:30 p.m.
Thursday, February 24, 5:30 p.m.

This overview will help familiarize you with MLA citations—an important and necessary part of academic writing.  Bring your own papers or Works Cited pages for extra help.

APA Format

Wednesday, March 2, 2:30 p.m.
Thursday, March 3, 1:00 p.m.

This overview will help familiarize you with APA citations—an important and necessary part of academic writing.  Bring your own papers or Reference pages for extra help.

Creative Writing Workshop–Using Details & Description

Wednesday, March 16, 2:30 p.m.
Thursday, March 17,  6:00 p.m.

This workshop will focus on enhancing creative writing through the use of details. Bring your own writing or come with an idea.

Proofreading & Polishing Documents

Wednesday, March 30, 2:30 p.m.
Thursday, March 31, 11:00 a.m.

A well-edited final draft means the difference between a good paper and a great paper.  Learn how to polish, proofread, and edit your own work so you can hand in great final papers and writing projects.

Writing Personal Statements

Wednesday, April 13, 2:30 p.m.
Thursday, April 14,  6:00 p.m.

If you are writing a personal statement, application essay or statement of purpose, this workshop is for you!  Get valuable tips for this important piece of writing that is required for graduate school and scholarship applications.
