Goals and Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Goals

  1. Achieve long-term improvement in writing process and product.
  2. Increase confidence in writing ability.
  3. Establish independence to continue improvement.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students come prepared for their conference, with questions or a draft.
  2. Students articulate a goal for the session, what they hope to accomplish by meeting with a consultant.
  3. Students will demonstrate a plan for accomplishing their goals after the session.
  4. Students will analyze their own writing process and how to make it work for particular genres and purposes.
  5. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the assignment or prompt.
  6. Students will be able to define strategies for revision and how to implement them.
  7. Students will be able to apply conventions of standard American usage in editing and polishing their work.
  8. Students will be able to document sources according to the citation style of their discipline, when appropriate.
  9. Students will be able to recognize when they need additional writing support and either apply strategies from a previous appointment or return to the CWE for additional feedback.

Note: These outcomes also apply to writers who are not students.
