Fall 2025 Writing Workshops

The Center for Writing Excellence will provide a series of online workshops to help develop writing skills you can use now and in the future. Zoom with us on Mondays at 2:00pm: https://montclair.zoom.us/j/93256263911.
Workshops are 45 minutes long and do not require advance preparation. All students, faculty, staff, and alumni are welcome to attend.

Journaling with Purpose and Reflection

Studies show that journaling helps us decompress and strengthen our writing skills. Reflective journaling, or journaling with a purpose in mind, takes journaling further by encouraging an intentional way of writing. Learn how to apply reflective journaling to your academic and personal life, as well as project planning.

Introduction to APA style (7th edition)

This overview will help familiarize you with APA citations—an important part of academic writing in social science fields such as Business, Nursing, Psychology, Linguistics, Sociology, Economics, and Justice Studies. Bring your Reference pages and questions for extra help.

Write a Scary Story for Halloween

Do you enjoy scary stories for Halloween—or any time of year?  Come to our creative writing workshop and write a funny, scary, or hairy story of your own.  A CWE consultant will lead the way.

Introduction to MLA style (9th edition)
November 3, 2:00pm
This overview will help familiarize you with MLA citations—an important part of academic writing in areas of the humanities such as English, Foreign Language and Literatures, Literary Criticism, and Cultural Studies. We will also review updates included in the 9th edition. Bring your Works Cited pages and questions for extra help.

Integrating Evidence Into Your Writing

Your argument or thesis is only as strong as the evidence you present with it. This workshop will cover how to use evidence in your papers across disciplines so your writing makes effective arguments.

Polishing and Proofreading Tips for Final Drafts

A well-edited final draft makes all the difference so your hard work can shine. Learn how to polish, proofread, and edit your own work for excellent final papers and projects.
