Have you been struggling with negative body image or unhealthy eating habits? This group is for Montclair State students who would like to get support from one another and skills in overcoming struggles with body image and food. The group will be facilitated by two CAPS therapists and certified yoga instructors (Lisa Westreich, LCSW, RYT & Jude Uy, PhD, RYT) and will combine yoga, meditation and other skills training with the goal of developing a more compassionate relationship with body, self and food.
The first half of the group will focus on discussion and experiential exercises to facilitate awareness, knowledge and skills development. The second half will focus on practicing yoga and mindfulness. All body types and experiences with yoga and mindfulness are welcome! M.B.B. meets in person on Thursdays from 2:30-4:30pm starting September 30, 2021 and if you are not free at this time, then please consider reserving this time for next semester. If interested, please come join us for an introductory session on September 30 in the Student Center, room 419 to learn more about the group and to sign up. Some suggestions for an optimal yoga/mindfulness practice:
Wear comfortable clothing
Try not to have a big meal directly before the group
Find a place where you can practice privately with limited distractions
If you have props (yoga mat, blocks, strap) great, but if not you can use a towel, books, and scarf or belt
You are welcome to leave or stay as long as you’d like, however you’ll get the most out of the program if you stay for the whole time and you attend all sessions!
