Professor Fawzia Afzal-Khan recently joined Jas Kaur, founder of Brown Girls Rising, and Clinical Psychologist, Aneesa Shariff on BBC to explore taboo aspects of South Asian communities – including mental health, parental conflict, dating outside of your race, culture clashes and negotiating dual identities to live a life true to yourself. The session, Brown Girls on the Rise, was broadcast live on July 29, 2020.
During the months of May and June, Professor Afzal-Khan created a zoom series in response to the coronavirus titled “Love and Solidarity in the Time of Corona.” Journal of International Women’s Studies (JIWS) archives the entire zoom series.
“Reform or Revolution,” archived zoom session #6 on JIWS, invited panelists draw on recent protests in the United States to reflect on systemic injustice and oppression from a transnational perspective. Several Montclair State faculty members joined the discussion including co-host Arnaud Kurze (Justice Studies) and panelists Kate Temoney (Religion) and Jason Williams (Justice Studies).
