Gender Inclusive Housing Options

Stonewall Suites

Stonewall Suites is Montclair State University’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and allied (LGBTQA) living community and is overseen by the LGBTQ Center in collaboration with the Office of Residence Life. This community was established in 2010 and continues to provide students with a comfortable living and learning experience, where residents are placed without consideration of gender identity, gender expression or sexual orientation. Stonewall Suites seeks to connect students interested in supporting and educating themselves and their community about LGBTQA and other social justice issues. Those living in Stonewall Suites work to connect their experiences or theory they learn in the classroom with opportunities for student involvement through Residential Life and the LGBTQ Center.

Gender Inclusive Apartment Housing

Gender Inclusive Housing (G.I.H.) is a living opportunity for students to select their suitemates beyond the boundaries of gender constrictions. Students who are interested in G.I.H. would complete a G.I.H. Living Agreement prior to their housing selection process. Since G.I.H. is a housing preference, it is integrated into the housing selection process. Students who opt-in for G.I.H. would follow all other directions for housing selection. Being in a gender inclusive space does not guarantee a specific housing style accommodation. Students are required to follow additional policies from the Office of Residence Life which include filling the suite/apartment with students who have also opted into the G.I.H. opportunity.
