Psychoeducational Services Clinic

Psychoeducational Services Clinic

‌The Psychoeducational Services Clinic (PSC) at Montclair State University offers an array of affordable psychological services to children, adolescents, adults, and families in northern New Jersey and surrounding areas. The PSC operates as the primary training clinic for students studying school psychology in the Psychology Department at Montclair State. All services are provided under the direct supervision of professionally licensed and/or credentialed doctoral-level psychologists and Montclair State faculty members.

Assessments: Assessments of cognitive, academic, behavioral, social/emotional and other areas of functioning are offered. Clinicians may also work with parents and school personnel to obtain additional information as needed. Finally, clients receive evidence-based recommendations for school, home and/or outside interventions. Typical reasons for referral to our clinic include suspected learning disabilities, emotional-behavioral problems, establishing baseline performance, eligibility for accommodations at the elementary, secondary and college level, and eligibility for Gifted and Talented programs, and private school admission.

Tests utilized to measure cognitive functioning include, but are not limited to, the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence, 4th Edition (WPPSI-IV), the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, 5th Edition (WISC-V), and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, 4th Edition (WPPSI-IV). Tests utilized to measure achievement include the Woodcock Johnson Tests of Achievement, 4th Edition (WJ-IV).

We also utilize tests of behavioral and social/emotional functioning, such as the Behavior Assessment System for Children System, 3rd Edition (BASC-3).

Fees: A full psychoeducational evaluation is comprised of four to five appointments, including an intake meeting, three to four assessment meetings, and a feedback meeting, at which clients are provided with a written report. The cost for this full assessment is $875.00 as of September 1, 2019. The reduced fee for enrolled MSU students is $100. Our fees are generally significantly lower than those of similar services provided by private clinics and individual practitioners. The PSC aims to provide high quality  services across its clientele. For qualifying individuals with limited ability to pay, the PSC offers services on a sliding scale basis.

Appointments: Appointments for psychoeducational evaluations are available Tuesdays in the late afternoon and evening. During regular academic semesters, in accordance with the academic calendar at Montclair State, we schedule appointments to begin at 5:30 p.m., and there is some flexibility, depending on availability of advanced evaluators. Please note that the PSC does not provide medical, medication, crisis intervention, or substance abuse treatment services.

Location: The PSC is located in the Center for Clinical Services (CCS) at 147 Clove Rd, Little Falls, NJ near Parking Lots 60 and 61 at the northernmost tip of the University campus. CCS is comprised of separate adult and child/family reception areas, 24 assessment and treatment rooms, and ADA accessible conference rooms. Each assessment and treatment room is equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology that is HIPAA compliant for optimal client protection in terms of privacy and confidentiality.

Intake Forms: New clients are asked to complete an online intake form prior to their first appointment. Separate intake forms for adults and children/students can found below.
