LGBTQ+ Housing Options

Stonewall Suites is Montclair State University’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and allied (LGBTQA) living community and is overseen by the LGBTQ Center in collaboration with the Office of Residence Life. This community was established in 2010 and continues to provide students with a comfortable living and learning experience, where residents are placed without consideration of gender identity, gender expression or sexual orientation. Stonewall Suites seeks to connect students interested in supporting and educating themselves and their community about LGBTQA and other social justice issues. Those living in Stonewall Suites work to connect their experiences or theory they learn in the classroom with opportunities for student involvement through Residential Life and the LGBTQ Center. Learn More about Housing.

Beyoncé said it best: “America Has a Problem”. News sources are filled daily with the rights of women, transgender folk, immigrants, Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and more consistently being called into question across the nation. We often see these dialogues being followed by the legal refusal and/or retraction of basic human rights in certain states. These circumstances are enough for anyone to feel uneasy, unsafe and unwanted.

As we embark upon a new and exciting journey with Bloomfield College, we must be steadfast in maintaining the history, legacy and future of the only New Jersey institution to be recognized as a Predominantly Black Institution (PBI), Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and a Minority serving Institution. As Red Hawk Nation has risen for students with marginalized identities in the past, shameless plug: we were recognized as the #1 LGBTQ+ Friendly NJ institution by Campus Pride and study.com in 2021, we shall do the same once Bloomfield College of Montclair State University is official. Learn More about the Bloomfield / Montclair Merger.

Montclair Is Here For You

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is a department within the Dean of Students Office designed to provide free personal counseling and psychological services for Montclair State students, as well as referrals and consultations for faculty and staff. We are fully accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Centers (IACS). In addition, CAPS provides a range of services, including drop-in groups, which will offer an opportunity to connect with one another. Learn More about CAPS.

Montclair’s Commitment to Accessibility

Did you know that according to NJ State law, most buildings are only required to have at most one accessible entrance? Montclair State University has fulfilled that requirement and more, but there is still much more work to be done. Montclair State University is committed to the full inclusion of students with disabilities in all curricular and co-curricular activities as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. The Disability Resource Center (DRC) will assist you in receiving the accommodations and services necessary to equalize access.
