The importance of kindness

The world is currently suffering in many ways and that in turn means people are too. Everyone has a different story, a different walk of life and a different viewpoint but that does not mean we should not be kind. If anything, we need kindness now more than ever. There are so many among us who are not only dealing with sickness and mental health issues but also the lack of work, lack of finances, and lack of human connection. Humans thrive off of human interaction and the fact that we are all faced with the challenges of COVID-19, can make it more difficult for people to find peace and happiness in their day to day.

We must remember that we may never know what is going on in someone else’s life. We need to stop assuming the worst in others and passing judgement and have a little more compassion towards people. A simple act of kindness can actually change someone’s day and can even change their life, so why not be kind? We may never know that holding a door for someone, or saying thank you or offering a helping hand can make a huge difference in the life of another.

We may not be able to help everyone that we come in contact with. We may not be able to understand what they are going through. We may never have the answers and may never know the full story and that is OK. The way we respond to others can make a difference. We need more kindness. Kindness is contagious so the more you offer a bit of kindness the more you spread and in this case, spreading kindness is a good thing.

Remember the wise words of Gandhi, “Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.”

When in doubt, be kind.
