On September 26, Dr. Marc Favata, Chair of the Physics and Astronomy Department at Montclair State University, will deliver a lecture on “The Scientific Legacy of Apollo” at 7pm in Montclair’s Center for Environmental and Life Sciences, Room 120.

The primary goal of the Apollo missions was “landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth.” But the Apollo astronauts also left several scientific experiments on the Moon and returned with 842 pounds of lunar materials. What did we learn from this? Dr. Favata’s presentation will focus on a few scientific questions that were informed by the scientific efforts of the Apollo astronauts including the formation of the Moon, the seismology & composition of the Moon, and Lunar Laser Ranging (LLR) and its role in testing general relativity.

Following the lecture is Star Gazing/Telescope Night (Weather Permitting)
