Don Bender discusses NJ Nike Missile Bases on Wed., Oct. 13 at 7pm

On October 13 at 7pm, Don Bender, author and Local Historian, discusses the network of Nike Missile bases in New Jersey including the installation at Riker Hill on the Livingston/E. Hanover border that constituted an air defense system against a potential Soviet nuclear attack from the 1950s to the 70s. At one time, there were 14 Nike Missile Bases scattered across the state of New Jersey. The forty two acre Riker Hill facility which was purchased from the federal government for one dollar was converted into an Essex County Park in 1976 that includes 38 artist studios.
