On Thursday, November 18 at 7:30pm (via Zoom),  J. Samuel Walker (author of  Prompt & Utter Destruction: Truman and the Use of the Atomic Bombs against Japan  and former Historian of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission) reflects on President Truman’s reasons and justification for using atomic weapons against Japan in 1945 based on the most recent historical information. He also summarizes the arguments of other historians and officials both for and against Truman’s decision.
