It was with great pleasure that Harry A. Sprague Library hosted a memorable and well-attended book talk by New York Times bestselling author Joyce Maynard and professor Alice Elliott Dark.

This event was offered as an outcome of the Montclair Literary Festival’s new partnership with Montclair State University. The discussion on Maynard’s new book The Bird Hotel was filled with laughter and excitement, as attendees listened to book excerpts and explanations of Maynard’s writing and inspiration. Prompted by Dark’s thought-provoking questions, Maynard recounted her history and adventures which shaped and ignited her literary creations.

After the captivating hour-long dialogue, both Maynard and Dark spent time speaking with attendees and signing copies of their books in this inaugural event in the beautiful Alumni Green Overlook room. Maynard is known for including sketches at book signings and she memorialized the event with this charming illustration in one of the organizer’s copies.
