Faculty Search and Hiring

Montclair’s strategy for faculty recruitment and search is guided by the commitments expressed in the University Mission Statement (2025), which articulate the future direction of the institution and expectations for faculty as intellectual leaders. Search committees are encouraged to keep those commitments at the forefront of decision-making and to ask throughout the process: Who can help the University fulfill these commitments?

The Faculty Affairs unit of the Provost’s Office leads faculty and librarian search processes and provides guidance, resources, and consultation throughout the search process. Working closely with Human Resources, the Provost’s Faculty Affairs team offers guidelines, tools, and templates to support hiring managers and search committees from position inception and approval through recruitment, selection, and onboarding. Committee members may contact Mary Colon, Assistant Vice President for Academic Personnel Services  or Emily Isaacs, Senior Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs, with any questions.

Additional support is available through the Faculty Hiring Best Practices course and a facilitator training for search chairs and search committees. These resources guide search leads and committee members through each stage of the process, offering updated guidance and empirically grounded best practices for conducting effective searches.

For information about the Workday Recruiting process, see Hiring a Faculty Member on the Human Resources webpage.
