On Wednesday, May 3, the Department of Accounting and Finance, the Accounting Society and the Financial Management Economics Society invite you to the Fifth Annual Accounting Reception. This is the inaugural event under the new combined Department of Accounting and Finance. Join us to connect with fellow alumni, engage in conversation with faculty and share successes with current students as you help them build their networking skills. In years past, the event has brought in nearly 150 students, over 50 alumni and the entire department faculty as well as administration from the Feliciano School of Business.

Come learn about program initiatives in the newly formed Department of Accounting and Finance. This includes the development of a new combined major for Accounting and Finance students which prepares them for both the CPA and CFA exams. In addition, a tour of the Feliciano School of Business will be available.

As of July 1, 2016, the Accounting, Law and Taxation Department, and the Finance area of the Economics and Finance Department were merged into a newly formed department named Accounting and Finance. The main purpose for this merger was to give students from both programs more value related to both academics and job opportunities. Many topics in both disciplines overlap. Also, many accounting employers hire finance students for their consulting services. Likewise, the majority of accounting students eventually are employed in the finance area of a company.

Therefore, besides the Accounting major and Finance concentration that presently exist, a new combined major is being developed to give students the ability to sit for both the CPA exam and the CFA exam. The students who choose this new major will have tremendous value in the business environment. They will also have many more employment opportunities during their careers. This merger has resulted in over 950 students supported by a faculty of 33 full-time professors. This makes it the largest department in the Feliciano School of Business and one of the largest in the University.

“Our fifth annual Accounting Reception is sure to be a great opportunity to bring back many of our accounting and finance alumni,” says Frank Aquilino, Associate Dean, Feliciano School of Business. “It’s an evening that we’re proud to have alumni come out to recruit new students and show an interest to serve as mentors, speak in a class or provide internships.”
