The Montclair State University campus buzzed with activity on Saturday, October 22, as hundreds of students, alumni, families and friends turned out to celebrate Homecoming 2016.

The full day of events and activities kicked off with two sold-out family pancake breakfasts for first-year students and their families, where more than 650 people enjoyed a pancake breakfast, student entertainment and an update on what’s happening at the University from President Susan A. Cole and University officials.

Open houses and reunions around campus followed, with all the Colleges and Schools, as well as the Educational Opportunity Fund Program and the Bonner Leader AmeriCorps Program, holding well-attended events for their alumni. The University’s radio station WMSC-FM held an open house with tours of their studios and the George Segal Gallery opened its doors so that visitors could view the photography exhibit.

The always-popular Campus Carnival, with food, games, rides and other activities took place in the Panzer Athletic Center and the Kiddie Zone featuring carnival rides and a toddler play center took place nearby.

Current students entertained with skits and dance routines at the Student Showcase in the Amphitheater as alumni looked on from next door while enjoying local craft beers at the Beer Garden at Kasser Theater.

Always a highlight of the day, the Homecoming football game drew a crowd of dedicated supporters to Sprague Field where they cheered the Red Hawks on to a 21-7 victory over The College of New Jersey Lions. Cheerleaders provided the half-time entertainment as Montclair State Athletic Hall of Fame alumni were recognized.

The occasional rain showers didn’t dampen the spirits of all those who came to reunite with friends, enjoy great entertainment and fun, get reacquainted with the campus and show their Red Hawk pride!
