Montclair State’s second annual Giving Day exceeded all expectations raising a total of over $40,000 in donations by 311 donors, more than tripling the amount raised its first year. To help efforts, prior to Giving Day, Athletics kicked-off a 10-day social media campaign with Athletic Director Holly Gera pledging to match up to $1500 for gifts to Athletics. Within three days, Alumni and friends donated the $1500 needed for the match. In the run-up to Giving Day, sports teams posted video highlights, championship photos and messages from student athletes, coaches and alumni asking for support. By the end, Athletics had raised $8,700 to support nine teams and programs. To celebrate, Swim Coach Brian McLaughlin back flipped into the pool fully dressed.

Other highlights of Giving Day include over $15,000 raised for the Emergency Scholarship Fund and $2,000 raised for the Red Hawk Pantry. The success of the day also included challenge gifts of $10,000 from a friend of the University, as well as $5,000 from an alumna of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Alumni, faculty, staff, friends, parents, and students all contributed to the success of the day.

“We are blown away by the generosity of the Montclair State community. Everyone’s joint efforts helped us to surpass our Giving Day goal and provide much needed support for the students of Montclair State,” says Stacy Albanese ’08, ’17 MA, Associate Director of Alumni Relations.
