Classes of 1968 and 1958 Celebrate

Members of the class of 1968 celebrated their 50th reunion in May. 50th Reunion provides alumni the opportunity to reconnect with each other and with Montclair State. For many, it’s a reason to get together with lifelong friends. For others, it’s a chance to see their classmates, many who they have not seen in fifty years. Returning to campus is always exciting for this group. Some have been back to visit or attend events and activities, while others are experiencing fifty years worth of growth and change when they return for reunion.

Alumni and their guests gathered at the Crowne Plaza hotel for an informal cocktail gathering. The next morning, members of the class lead the procession at Undergraduate Commencement. Alumni, including the classes of 1968 and 1958, celebrated their 50th and 60th reunions on campus at a casual coffee gathering.

All of these celebrations culminated as the groups came together for a reunion luncheon on campus. Remarks from Lisa Hoyt, Associate Vice President for Development; Jeanne Marano, Assistant Vice President for Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement, as well as reunion committee members marked the occasion. After lunch, commemorative group photos were taken, and alumni were offered a bus tour of the campus that many of them had not seen in fifty years. Throughout the celebration, alumni enjoyed recalling campus life by looking through yearbooks and memorabilia. To conclude the luncheon, the group came together to sing the alma mater.

In all, 12 states were represented among the members of the Class of 1968 who attended the festivities. Alumni traveled from California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and of course, New Jersey.

Special thanks to the Class of 1968 Reunion Committee. This group spent months preparing, planning, and reaching out to classmates via phone and email to encourage participation. Their commitment to making this a successful reunion was evident by the turn out and the enthusiasm shown by all during the two day event.
