Student Spotlight: Talia Antonacci ’19

Talia Antonacci initially was attracted to Montclair State University because of its esteemed Italian program – and now, looking back, she is proud of her choice and feels she has benefited immensely from all the University has to offer. Having graduated in January with a major in Italian and a minor in Business, she credits the program for its strong academics and how it helps students build their resumes and gain experience in various fields of study.

“The Italian program at Montclair State is exceptional, and I truly feel that I’ve grown thanks to my professors and their dedication to their students and the program,” says Antonacci.

Among the highlights of her time at the University was being selected as a recipient of an Inserra scholarship for 2018-19, which connected her to ideal internships incorporating both her fields of study. The scholarship may be awarded to students who major or minor in Italian and allows students to experience pre-professional opportunities linking the study of the Italian language and culture with the business sector. Talia’s internships included working with teams at the Italian Trade Agency, the commercial branch of the Italian Consulate in New York, as well as Choose New Jersey, an organization that actively attracts Italian companies to New Jersey.

“It is an honor to have received this scholarship and I am grateful for the extremely generous financial support…it has helped me immensely not only financially, but academically as well,” says Antonacci. She recognizes the value of the internship opportunities that enabled her to work in a business and marketing setting and opened new doors, providing her with useful skills and contacts for her future.

“Receiving a scholarship gave me the confidence and security to continue my education, work harder and make Montclair State University and my donor, Mr. Inserra, proud,” she says. Antonacci is eager to match her passion for Italian culture and language with a business- or marketing-related job.
