Announcing the 2019 Summer Fun Series

Posted in: Alumni News and Events

Liberty Science Center

We’re announcing a fun and exciting series of events throughout the summer months to bring Montclair State alumni together! From a science filled afternoon to casual networking gatherings, there is something for everyone. Celebrate summer and your alma mater by spending a day with fellow graduates and friends.

Our first event of this series was a Red Hawk Happy Hour and networking opportunity at the Red Rock Tap + Grill in Red Bank on Tuesday, July 16. Alumni had a chance to reconnect with old friends, make new ones and enjoy the view of the sunset over the Navesink River.

“The alumni gathering in Red bank was such a great event. It was exciting to connect with former soccer teammates, meet new alumni and share memories of Montclair State,” says Stephanie Sabaliauskas ’05, ’11 MA.

Alumni also had the opportunity to hear from Rob Chesney ’90 who was recently appointed to director of athletics at Montclair State. Chesney, who assumed his new position in June, shared his Montclair State story which started over 30 years ago as a student athlete on the men’s soccer team. Since then, he has served in many important roles in the athletic department, including head coach for the men’s soccer team, associate director of athletics and most recently, interim director. He shared highlights and talked about his vision for the program which includes increased alumni involvement.

“I was happy to be able to attend an alumni gathering so close to home. I enjoyed meeting alumni from a variety of class years and hearing their stories,” says Gloria Mercurio ’74, ’79 MA. “I was glad to meet the new athletic director, Rob Chesney. I appreciated his enthusiasm and message.”

Family Fun at The Liberty Science Center – July 28

On Sunday, July 28, join fellow alumni for a family fun day at Liberty Science Center. We invite you to join us for a fun-filled day at the Liberty Science Center at a special discounted admission which includes lunch and a movie experience. Choose from new releases like Super Power Dogs 3D and Black Holes.

Enjoy fun, high-quality science and technology experiences led by talented STEM educators. Participate in scavenger hunts, an animal encounter, beekeeping, pop-up and live science shows, a touch tank, and so much more! Lunch will be included as well as fun trivia, challenges, and prizes. Make sure to show your Red Hawk Pride by wearing your Montclair State gear!

“When I received the email about the Liberty Science event for alumni and our families, I thought it was a great idea. With 7 nieces and nephews, my family and I are always looking for opportunities to get together as a family,” says Marie Tizon ’04, ’11 MA, who attended last year’s event. “Liberty Science Center had events for all of us to enjoy! We all loved the planetarium show and the kids had fun answering the questions during lunch time.”
