Reunion provides alumni with the opportunity to reconnect with each other and with their alma mater. For many, it’s a reason to celebrate with lifelong friends. For others, it’s a chance to get together with classmates, many of whom they may not have seen in 50 years. Some have been back to campus to visit or attend events and activities, while others are experiencing 50 years’ worth of growth and change when they return for reunion.

On Thursday, May 21, and Friday, May 22, 2020, members of the Class of 1970 have the opportunity to reconnect with former classmates at their 50th Reunion celebration. In celebration of this milestone anniversary, the group is invited to gather for receptions, campus tours, a luncheon, as well as to lead the procession during the University’s 2020 Commencement Ceremony at the Prudential Center.

“The campus has grown by leaps and bounds since their time here. What hasn’t changed is the great sense of community that is still shared by alumni and current students alike,” says Jeanne Marano, assistant vice president for Annual Giving and Alumni Engagement. “We are thrilled to invite the Class of 1970 back to campus to reconnect with each other and the University as we celebrate this momentous occasion.”

Members of the reunion volunteer committee have been working hard to plan a memorable reunion and create a legacy through the group’s class gift. The reunion volunteer committee includes, Irene Buckely, Barbara Fischer Erickson, Lois Schneider Farese, Marybeth Connolly Henry, Debbie May Hoeflinger, Joe Macluso, Thomas Puryear, Frances Hovanec Sabaliauskas and James Thomas. Committee members have spent months preparing, planning and reaching out to classmates. Their commitment and support have been critical to the success of this year’s reunion celebration.

Marybeth Connolly Henry says that she’s looking forward to “reconnecting and celebrating with friends and classmates” at the upcoming reunion as well as “raising funds for a class gift or a class of 1970 scholarship to support one or more students each year.”

The University is working with Publishing Concepts Inc. (PCI) to help capture memories from the Class of 1970’s time at Montclair State. PCI will be reaching out by mail and email to gather stories. As a member of the reunion class, you may reach out to participate in the project by contacting PCI at 877-375-0269. A commemorative book will be created with the memories shared, and members of the class will receive their copy during the reunion festivities.
