The Red Hawk Pantry Relief Campaign

Red Hawk Pantry

Did you know? The Red Hawk Pantry was established in April 2016 to address food insecurity at Montclair State. Since then, the pantry has grown to offer more than just canned goods. In addition to non-perishable items, the pantry also offers:

  • Frozen food items
  • Fresh foods and produce
  • Toiletries and personal care items
  • School supplies, kitchenware and more

By supporting the Red Hawk Pantry, you will help to ensure that our students in need have access to food and supplies during this challenging time. The pantry remains open to serve all of our students who may be facing food insecurity.

“Hunger doesn’t take a summer vacation,” says Sonja Tillman, coordinator of the Red Hawk Pantry. “The pantry remains open to serve our students year-round and serves many students each week over the summer. Students are trying to continue their education and doing so while hungry and without basic needs is extremely hard.”

We are excited to announce that we surpassed our goal of $5,000 in just one week, and now we are doubling our efforts and our impact. Help us reach our new goal of $12,000!

Because of your support, the pantry is able to help so many students:

  • During the semester, the pantry averages 15-20 students per week with that increasing towards the end of the semester, typically in late November and mid-April when there is an increase of 30-40 students per opening.
  • In fall 2019, the pantry served 63% residential students and 37% commuter students. These students have an average age of 22.7 and an average GPA of 3.04.
  • For spring 2020, to date, the pantry has served 160 students. 73% were residential and 28% were commuters. In terms of class year, 69% were seniors, 43% were juniors, and 8% were graduate students.

Now, more than ever, ensuring students have access to groceries and other necessary items is crucial. Join us in our June campaign to make sure our students can focus on their studies and do not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from.
