Alfred Bundy ’75, ’81 MA, is President of Alfred Bundy Productions and statewide host of Altice USA, Optimum’s, Cablevision Public Affairs TV Show “Meet the Leaders” (MTL). Bundy has garnered five Cable Awards for Programming Excellence (CAPE) awards and has been nominated for two American Cinema Editors (ACE) awards.

A recent feather in his cap – his 35-year career – took place earlier this year, when the Board of Directors of Newark Symphony Hall elected Bundy as its new Board Chairman.

Before becoming a recognized figure in the fields of urban affairs, communications, politics, and the arts, Bundy was a student at Montclair State, earning his undergraduate degree in Psychology and his graduate degree in Human Services.

“Having both a Master’s and Bachelor degrees from Montclair State University has earned me much respect in the marketplace,” says Bundy. “Moreover, my education has helped me secure numerous leadership positions, and my degrees gave me the confidence to run my own consulting firm for over 20 years.”

Bundy was an active undergraduate student, and notes that he “really enjoyed the Montclair State college life.” Some memories that he recalls from living on campus include shows of some of the leading entertainers at that time often hosted in Panzer Gymnasium. “I recall musical performances by Patti Labelle; Tower of Power; Donald Byrd and the Black Birds; Comedian, Robert Klein; Mentalist, the Amazing Kreskin; and many more.”

The on-campus radio station, WMSC, was also a part of Bundy’s experience, and credits the station with helping to develop his interest in broadcasting. Adds Bundy, “I got a chance to meet many of the NY Jocks, and enjoyed DJing at many of the campus parties.”

When asked if any faculty or staff left a lasting impression on him, Bundy is quick to call several mentors. “As a member of the Black Student Union and a student leader on campus, Former Assistant Dean of Students James Harris was an excellent role model for me. In addition to his great commitment to our organization, he always found time to personally talk to me about leadership, and how to effectively organize. When I was close to graduation he facilitated for me, my first professional job assignment, working as a Program Director for the Leaguers, Inc. in Newark, NJ.”

Bundy also recollects Rueben Johnson, EOF Director, and Dr. Kwaku Armah, EOF Counselor, who he refers to as “tremendous supporters of mine”. “Dr. Armah tutored me in statistics, in both my undergraduate and graduate classes. Kwaku shared many wonderful stories about his homeland of Ghana. Some twenty years later, when I was a delegate to the African/African American Summit in Ghana, Kwaku Armah was there to greet me,” adds Bundy.

When asked if he has any advice to offer current students, Bundy has an important message to impart. “I think the world is evolving to a place where it will be enjoyed most by people who are smart and well educated. There will become a greater divide between those who have, and those who do not.” Says Bundy, “More than ever, students need to be engaged and proficient in the use of new technology and media platforms in order to successfully participate in this ever-changing society and global economy. Never stop learning and growing. Remember, you are always in the process of becoming. Most importantly, you must truly believe that the best is yet to come.”
