MSW Part-time Program (3 Years)

The MSW is a 60-credit Program

Part-time program: 3 years

The MSW Part-time program is a 3 year program starting in Fall semester. All courses are 3 credits. Students take 3 courses per semester (Fall / Spring) and electives in the Summer.

Year 1 (Fall, Spring, Summer): Students receive comprehensive training in generalist social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations and communities. Students become familiar with prevention and intervention methods designed to promote client well-being, based on scientific inquiry and best practices. Course topics include diversity, oppression, social justices, assessment and diagnosis, policy, human behavior and research. No field work.

Year 2 (Fall, Spring, Summer): Student learning continues and students participate in a supervised field practicum approximately 15 hours per week. Course topics include generalist clinical practice, child abuse and neglect and child and family policy.

Year 3 (Fall and Spring): Students obtain training in specialized clinical practice with children, youth and families. Course topics include clinical practice, family interventions, and practice evaluation. Students also participate in a supervised clinical field practicum at an agency serving children, adolescents and/or families for approximately 21 hours per week.

**Students could choose to  some summer electives.At least one elective should be clinical for clinical license requirements.

Academic Credit for Life/Work Experience

Please note that MSU does not grant any academic credit for life experience or previous work experience. This applies to all required and elective courses in the MSW program (two-year and Advanced Standing), and to field education hours. No exceptions to this policy will be granted for any reason.
