• Maneesha Kelkar (Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies) wrote an opinion piece for NJ.com as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, calling for sexual assault and all forms of gender-based violence to be seen as a societal issue, not just a women’s issue.
• The latest issue of New Jersey Monthly features a profile of President Koppell and an article on our Red Hawks Rising partnership program with Newark schools.
• Matthew Schuler (Biology) is quoted in this NJ.com article about the impact of New Jersey’s upcoming plastic bag ban on low-income, disabled communities. He’s also quoted in this NJ.com piece about how you can report businesses violating the ban.
• Stephanie Silvera (Public Health) also talked to NJ.com about two new COVID sub-variants that are battering Africa, and whether they’re headed for New Jersey. She also spoke with NJ Spotlight News about flu season lingering in the state this year.
• Eva Goldfarb and Lisa Lieberman (Public Health) were interviewed on the Spectrum News 1 podcast “Dear Ohio,” to discuss how and why sex education may be beneficial for younger students.
• Patricia Matthew (English) wrote a review for Times Literary Supplement of Sanditon, an eight-part, period-drama adaptation of Jane Austen’s final novel, airing on PBS. In the review, Matthew also discusses the second season of the Netflix series, Bridgerton.
• News of our recently announced transfer agreement with Hudson County Community College was published in the Hudson Reporter.

Reminders

• On May 16, masks will become optional in all indoor and outdoor spaces except for clinical care settings. As a courtesy, please ask if the people you’re in close contact with would prefer masking.
• We’re moving to Handshake. This new recruiting platform replaces Hire a Red Hawk this month. Look for an invitation to Handshake in your email on Monday, May 16.

• To Ashante Connor (Title IX Coordinator), who chairs the state’s Campus Sexual Assault Commission which will implement recommendations from the New Jersey State Plan for Higher Education, lead a statewide campus climate survey, and provide technical assistance and data analysis.
• To Valeria Aloe (Feliciano School of Business) who was recognized at the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s “The Art of Being a Modern Latina” event for her book, Uncolonized Latinas: Transforming Our Mindsets And Rising Together and to Maria Rodriguez-Gregg (Office of the President) for being a panelist at the event.
• To Eileen Fee (Student Services), and to the student mentees and alumni mentors for completing another successful CEO Program at the Feliciano School of Business, which connects students with business leaders and provides networking opportunities.
• To the Development team for the huge success of One Day for Montclair. Some 1,432 donors participated (up from 300 last year), contributing a total of $215,891 to help support our mission. And a big shout-out to Athletics for playing a huge role in the day’s success.
• To the Department of Athletics, which held the grand opening of its new Women’s Performance Center on Wednesday, May 4.
